Both Sides of the Fire
In this exciting new book author David Thompson describes his personal recollections from 'both sides of the fire'. First as a railwayman on steam and diesel trains, and then as a fireman with Nottinghamshire's Fire and Rescue Service. After retirement David found that the steam in his blood had just hibernated and he began working as a volunteer at the Midland Railway Centre in Butterley, Derbyshire.

A Midhurst Lad
A Sussex childhood from the mid 1920s to the late 1930s
Although poverty and illness marred his young life, Ronald Boxall's sense of mischief and humour shine through this charming childhood biography. Born in 1924, he was brought up in Duck Lane, Midhurst; at that time an address synonymous with hardship. Ronald tells his tale of 'the average life of an average boy born of poor parents, who lived in slum conditions, yet dwelt in the centre of a tiny and pretty town set in a near paradise of pastoral and sylvan delights' with wit and clarity, giving the reader an opportunity to share his memories of a bygone age.

A Somerset Airman
The story of an RAF Armourer, 19391946
At the age of 19 Eric Gardner joined the RAF. His witty observations of day-to-day life as a Airman in wartime Britain and Canada give a fascinating insight into the life experienced by many ordinary men and women, from all backgrounds, who were brought together by World War Two. Like many of his generation, Eric did not receive a higher education and was unable to fulfil his obvious potential. In later life he often commented that the RAF had been his university.
