Well done Malcolm!

Camden Local Studies and Archives have been celebrating the presentation of an MBE to Malcolm Holmes (pictured right). Malcolm retired in February after forty-three years with Camden Libraries, during which time he made an enormous contribution to local history. He began his career in local studies when he was appointed as an assistant curator and archivist. In 1974 he was appointed the borough’s first Local History Librarian and in 1994 was appointed to the then new post of Borough Archivist. During his long career he gave countless talks and tours as well as finding time to write a few local history books along the way. Malcolm also devoted much of his own time to supporting local history in Camden and will be missed by service users and colleagues alike. We would like to join his colleagues in congratulating Malcolm on his deserved MBE and wish a long and enjoyable retirement. Camden Local Studies and Archives have supported Local History Magazine since its very beginning in 1984. The front page of Backtracks No.17, April 2007, is devoted to a detailed account of Malcolm’s career and includes the photograph shown here.
