Once upon a time we would visit a museum we hadn’t been to before out of curiosity and were rarely disappointed. There was always something to see and discover. Today’s potential visitors often want more information before they even visit a museum, which may explain why the Fairfax House Museum in York has created an online museum tour, which you can find at www.fairfaxhouse.co.uk/explore/. The new new website gives visitors the opportunity to take an on-line tour and view the magnificent 18th century Georgian rooms complete with furniture, silver, ceramics, glass and paintings. The ‘tour’ also includes a selection of the Fairfax House collection and offers a fascinating insight into Georgian life. As a means of attracting visitors willing to pay at the door I'm sure the website will be a great success. Fairfax House, Castlegate, York YO1 9RN, tel: 01904 655543, email: info@fairfaxhouse.co.uk, open: Mon–Thu & Sat 11.00am–4.30pm, Sun 1.30–4.30pm (closed for winter cleaning Jan and part of Feb), cost £5 adults, £4 concessions, £15 family, children 15 & under free. |
