The Lion Salt Works Trust in Marston, just north-east of Northwich, in Cheshire has been awarded £4,960,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the £7m cost of a establishing a museum using existing and new buildings which will tell the history of salt making in the county and the processes involved. The long-term aim is that the Lion Salt Works should start making salt again. The Lion Salt Works comprises a group of buildings owned by Vale Royal Borough Council and is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as advised by English Heritage. The land and buildings are leased to the Lion Salt Works Trust. There is already a temporary exhibition on site and the Trust is busy looking for volunteers, especially anyone who would like to learn to become a salt maker.
