www.warwickshire.gov.uk/archivesunlocked is the new online catalogue for Warwickshire County Record Office and describes many of the original manuscripts in the collection charting over 900 years of history. www.derelictlondon.com displays over 1,000 contemporary photographs of London's history which lies forgotten in back streets or disguised as something quite different. The photographs are divided into different subjects and include: Pubs; Warerways; London Transport; A40 Western Avenue and the North London Railway (which is how I discovered the website). It's absolutely captivating and will grab your attention for ages. It is an approach to local history which could be used everywhere. A 'must visit' website. www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a is one of those sites which just keeps on growing, with something new being added every month. It's all to easy to visit a few times, then decide 'it has nothing for me'. The May 2006 update adds 52 new catalogues, bringing the total number to 99,647 (it won't be long before trumpets are announcing the 100,000th catalogue). There are now 9.61 million entries. This month's new catalogues include three from Wales: Denbighshire Record Office; Carmarthenshire Archive Service and Meirionnydd Record Office. www.brighton.ac.uk/screensearch allows users to search the collections of Screen Archive South East (formerly the South East Film & Video Archive) online for the first time. The renamed archive now includes 'magic lantern and new digital media' as well as film and video. |
